My wonderful boyfriend created this recipe for me this week! I was craving hot chocolate and voila! We indulged in this creation not just once, but twice this week - yes, that's how amazingly delicious this recipe is!

Ladies, if you're premenstrual you will love me for posting this - it's exactly what you need! Major flavour and all the comfort of a hot chocolate without the refined sugar, conventional dairy and upset tummy. Not to mention it's rich in magnesium thanks to the raw cacao. Did you know that many of the pain symptoms associated with PMS can be attributed to a deficiency of magnesium?! Magnesium acts as a muscle relaxant and tranquilizer. Good to know, right?!
Chris's Hot Chocolate (with a kick!)
2 1/2 cups non-dairy milk (we use homemade almond milk or sometimes coconut milk...psst! I'll post the recipe for my homemade coconut milk soon!)
3 tbsp 100% pure maple syrup
3 tbsp raw cacao (if you don't have raw, simply substitute organic cocoa powder)
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 pinch of cinnamon
1 pinch of cayenne (that's the kick!)
Bring the non-dairy milk, maple syrup, raw cacao, sea salt, vanilla extract, cinnamon and cayenne to a simmer in a saucepan over medium-high heat. You don't want to let this boil over. So pay close attention! Remove from the heat and whisk until beautifully frothy.
Pour into your favourite mug - we all have one! And enjoy:)
