Creamy Dreamy Cinnamon & Vanilla Cashew Smoothie

I'm obsessed with this smoothie right now! It feels very season-appropriate with the addition of spices like  cinnamon & nutmeg. After overeating & potentially overindulging during the holidays I think giving our digestive system a little rest is a great idea. Smoothies are perfect for that!

It's important to me that if I'm taking the time to make a smoothie, then I make it as nutritious as possible. Here's the nutrition info on some of the ingredients I've chosen for this smoothie:

Cashews: Ahh…my fave nut! I LOVE cashews on their own, blended into a cashew cheese sauce or a cashew sour cream or best yet into a milk! They are a rich source of copper, manganese, magnesium, tryptophan & phosphorus. How this translates to your health? Cashews (being a healthy fat) can actually help you to lose weight. Furthermore, they are heart-healthy and the copper in cashews plays a role in energy production, development of bones and elimination of free radicals.

Cinnamon: Is fantastic for stabilizing blood sugar levels making it ideal for those with type two diabetes. It's anti-microbial, a powerful antioxidant and a traditional warming remedy making it especially valuable during the winter months.

Tocotrienol Powder: A concentrated source of bioavailable Vitamin E which is known to benefit brain function, promote healthy cholesterol levels, known to inhibit certain cancers and tumours. Lastly it's a powerful antioxidant making this powder essential for anti-aging (if that's your thing). It will add a rich, malty flavour to your smoothie!

Creamy Dreamy Cinnamon & Vanilla Cashew Smoothie

1/2 cup cashews (soaked overnight or at least 4-6 hours)

1-2 cups filtered water depending on how thin/thick you prefer your smoothie

handful of spinach (don't be shy here! You won't taste it - trust me!)

1/2 banana

1-2 medjool dates (soaked for 1 hour, discard water)

1/2 tsp. cinnamon, ground

1/2 tsp. vanilla powder

1/2 tsp. vitamin C powder

1 tsp. tocotrienol powder (I use this one here)

pinch of nutmeg, ground

optional addition: Josh Gitalis's Elixir


Blend on high until combined & sip away!
