I wanted to share a new green smoothie recipe with all of you. It's a great one to incorporate on your weekends to boost hydration, protein and intake of leafy greens.
This very green kale smoothie is probably one of the most delicious green smoothies I've ever made.
It's a fantastic way to hydrate and replenish lost electrolytes after sweating from being out in the heat or working out thanks to the coconut water. It's the easiest way to increase your veggie intake thanks to 2 servings of kale which will provide you with powerful antioxidants, vitamin k which is essential for bone health and a rich source of minerals like copper, calcium, manganese, phosphorus, iron and potassium.
The almonds, aside from being a good source of protein will also act as our healthy fat. Spirulina is a complete source of protein and for those of you who don't know what spirulina is - it's a blue-green algae that's considered a superfood because it's so incredibly abundant in nutrition.
We're sweetening this smoothie off naturally with a combination of fresh and frozen fruit, powdered vanilla bean and a medjool date - no sugar here!
Mixed Fruit & Kale Green Smoothie
1 cup Coconut Water (I only use Thirsty Buddha brand - it's completely natural with nothing added)
1 fresh or frozen banana
1 cup frozen fruit blend (I like PC)
2 cups kale, washed
10 raw almonds
1 tbsp ground flax seeds
1 tsp spirulina powder
1/4 tsp vanilla powder
1 medjool date
water for thinning
Blend on high for 60 seconds or until everything is well combined. Pour into a glass and sip through a glass straw!
BAM - you're properly hydrated and nourished first thing in the morning with 2 servings of veggies down the hatch! How amazing is that?!
Enjoy every bit of the summer everyone! - Valerie XO
