Here is what I'm currently loving and what I'm oh so grateful for this month:

Jenn Pike's Simplicity DVDI'm so grateful for this DVD. It allows me to squeeze a phenomenal work out in whenever I can! If you've never been to one of Jenn's classes, I strongly urge you to give them a try. She has a fantastic yoga studio here in Keswick, Canada. If you don't live nearby or you're like me and you find that you're more likely to workout in the comfort of your own home then buy this DVD! Best money you'll ever spend by far. I like to alternate between the yoga and Pilates series and I'll tell you first hand that these works outs will kick your butt! The time that I'm able to carve out for myself to incorporate some form of movement is something I look forward to - a lot. It's a moment in my day that reminds me to slow down, breathe & be present in my body. For this, I'm completely grateful. BUY! BUY! BUY!

Morning smoothies: Like anyone else, I go through phases and lately I'm in a phase where all I want for breakfast is a nutrient packed smoothie. Maybe intuitively I know that my digestive system needs a little rest first thing in the morning. I'm really loving certain combos as of late like adding raw cacao powder (more on that below), Maca powder which is so fantastic for my adrenals, hormonal system and helping me to manage stress levels and OATS! I'm not giving them their own category on my love list - but they deserve one! I really like to add oats to my smoothies for a little variety but also because they are magnesium rich which helps promote calmness, ease anxiety and they are a fantastic source of B vitamins which our bodies use for energy. I'm telling you, it's a win-win! Here's one of my new faves - let me know what you think!

My Kitchen: Ever since taking Meghan Telpner's Culinary Nutrition Expert Program I have developed a major love affair with my kitchen. One of the greatest things we can do for our health and well-being is to spend more time in the kitchen preparing our own food. You don't need to be a gourmet chef - you just need to be willing to spare some of your time and TRY! Real food - fruit, veggies, raw nuts/seeds, legumes, whole grains, grass-fed beef, free range eggs - whole foods - all things that require preparation and time. This is a good thing! Real food is where health is at. I adore the time spent in my kitchen because I know I'm doing my body good. Now that I'm a Culinary Nutrition Expert I relish in recipe testing and developing and love creating in the kitchen. This may certainly be the thing I'm most grateful for this month.

Giddy YoYo Raw Chocolate: I don't have much of a sweet tooth, I'm way more of savoury popcorn kind of gal myself but on those rare occasions when I'm craving some chocolate this is my go t0! Giddy Yoyo is a Canadian company that sells organic, raw, dark chocolate that's 100% vegan, fair trade, gluten/soy/dairy/nut/refined sugar-free. All of that to say that this product is as clean as they come and it tastes awesome. Just like it reads on the package - it's food, not candy!

Drives with my boys: One of our favourite things to do on our weekends is to go for a drive. It's a great way to de-stress, unwind and be in the moment. In the summer, we make a point of taking drives around the lake with the windows rolled down and the sun shining in - I'm convinced there's something magical about being near the water. I'm yearning for summer!! Hurry up and get here! Even now in the midst of winter, we still love our drives! Such a simple pleasure that's inexpensive and a great way to connect.

Raw Cacao in my smoothies: I'm not talking processed cocoa! I mean the real stuff, raw cacao. Lately I can't get enough. Raw cacao is a fantastic source of magnesium, antioxidants, iron and fibre! I've said this before, but if you suffer from PMS, I encourage you to try incorporating raw cacao into your diet. Because it's a rich source of magnesium it will work to alleviate many symptoms associated with your period. Have you ever noticed that you crave chocolate when you're premenstrual? PMS symptoms have been associated with a deficiency in magnesium - hmmm, interesting, no?!

Feel good movies: I've stopped apologizing for only wanting to watch feel good movies. I like watching things that make me laugh, make me dream, that feel like a little escape from the real world. For me, those are comedies, chick-flicks - or as I prefer to call them girly movies, basically anything that doesn't scare the sh*t out of me, make me lay awake all night listening for suspicious noises, prevent me from confidently going down into the dark basement, mess with my head & just linger - you know what I mean? Anyone?? Anyway, I'm grateful that I'm at a point in my life where I can own up to this. I LOVE my girly movies - so there!

What's on your love list? XO - Valerie
