Stovetop Popcorn

Popcorn can actually be a really healthy snack alternative when keeping in mind a few things!

Pin me ๐Ÿ‘†๐Ÿฝto save me for later!

  • Buy organic always - to avoid GMO's
  • Make your own! It's so simple and a much better alternative to microwavable popcorn. First off - the microwave! Let's start decreasing the amount we use our microwave and eventually get rid of it all together. Your microwave is not serving you. Then there's the chemical lined popcorn bag - toxic! The carcinogenic resin they use to line your popcorn bag, once heated, is now being leached into your popcorn. Need I say more?!
  • Play around with your own toppings and avoid buying popcorn toppers such as processed powders and such from the grocery store.
  • Here is my standard popcorn recipe but please feel free to jazz it up with various seasoning spices as you like:

Stovetop Popcorn

1/3 Cup of organic kernels

3tbsp coconut oil

Salt & Pepper to taste

Optional spices/herbs: paprika, smoked paprika, turmeric, chili powder, cayenne, dill, etc.

Optional oils: melted organic butter, ghee or olive oil

My absolute fave combination: Recipe above plus nutritional yeast to taste - I love the cheesy component it adds.

Directions:

Using a medium-sized saucepan, place over medium heat & add the coconut oil.

Place 4 kernels in the heated oil & cover the pot with a lid. When you hear those kernels pop, remove pot from stove and add the remaining kernels. Cover the pot and count to 30 seconds out loud before returning it to the heat.

Once the pot is back on the burner wait until you hear the kernels start to pop and then crack the lid just a touch (to avoid soggy popcorn).

When the popping slows down to about 1 pop every 2-3 seconds your popcorn is ready.

In a large bowl combine the popcorn, salt, pepper and any other seasoning you would like and mix well.
